Duty Cycle
Define orbit-based Duty cycle constraints for a given Sensor Mode. Swaths will be cut to ensure the Duty cycle constraint is not breached.
The following can be configured:
- Mode: Select how to calculate the Duty Cycle, whether Anx to Anx, Dnx to Dnx, or Sliding Window. If the Period selected is different than ORBIT, then Sliding Window will be the only applicable mode.
- Period: Time period on which the duty cycle will be evaluated, whether DAY, ORBIT, CYCLE or CUSTOM period. The CYCLE option is available only for satellites with Sun Synchronous orbit. The CUSTOM option requires you to define the time period span explicitly. A period different thanORBIT will result in a calculation mode of Sliding Window.
- Maximum: Maximum percentage of time that the sensor is allowed to work within one orbit span.
- Trim Side: Defines the side for applying the constraint, whether end of swath, start of swath or center (both sides). It is also possible to select two additional options
- REMOVE: will delete the conflicting item from the collection with attempting to resize it
- MAX COVER: will select new start and end times maximizing area coverage.
- Grouping: Optional Text string that identifies a duty cycle group within the same satellite. Sensors of the same group will share the duty cycle resource in a combined way and taking into account their relative power usage.
If two sensors or modes have different maximum DCs and they are grouped to consume the DC resource commonly, they will consume it proportionally.
It is assumed that the DC constraint is an expression of a maximum energy usage allowed during the DC time window (T), which is typically one orbit.
The DC is a value in the range [0..1].
Let's assume n sensors (S1,..., Sn):
DCi: max duty cycle for sensor Si
Tmaxi = T * DCi, max operation time of sensor Si during T
Ti : sum of all Si swath operation times during T
Overall energy consumption during T:
E = sum(Ti/ Tmaxi), with i from 1 to n
The duty cycle constraint will trim S1 to Sn swath durations so that E remains in the range [0..1]
